Live 24-7 : attuning to the rhythm of the buck moon

Why do I anchor our groups around the seasons and the flow of the moon?

We are a part of the earth, and the earth is a part of us. It is easy to forget our natural origins and primal nature when we are lost in data center battles and an endless stream of stimulation coming from every angle.

Place a hand on your heart center, and maybe the other one too. Feel the rise and fall of your chest, feel your breath expanding the edges of your body, feel the boundaries of your body pulling into your center as you exhale. Repeat until you notice a change in how you experience your own energy.

What is your energy? It is how you experience your own resonance. The earth and our natural world offer an authentic reflection of our essence, our energy. The moon regularly offers a chance to reflect on our own rhythms of internal focus, outward expression, integration, expansion, and shedding. We move deep inside the liminal space with yoga nidra at the new moon, and expand out to express and discover ourselves with breathwork at the full moon.

We are in a time where astrologers, mystics, and channelers of all kinds are encouraging us to master our energy, utilize our knowledge of our nervous systems, and choose wisely where we focus our energy.

I had a dear friend who used to describe life as "live 24-7" — no rehearsal, no set break. She meant the waking up that happens when you shed the conditioning that once made numbing the ache feel normal, until even the grocery store or a walk with the dog becomes unfamiliar — every moment an opportunity for a new perspective, or simply to be with not knowing.

We are all "live 24-7." There's no backstage to this life — only the invitation to bring everything you have to being here, fully. Leave nothing undone or unsaid. Your thoughts, emotions, and choices are your power, your energy.

This full Buck Moon is a reflection of the opportunity to shed what has been outgrown — like the outer layer of the antlers — allowing what has already grown underneath to expand into the light. Resilience and nervous system capacity are not grown overnight; they come from a steady rhythm of expanding to the edge and drawing back to center. Each push to the edge moves closer to a time of shedding, until we shed limiting beliefs, old identities, and attachments. Then comes integration and rest.

Attending to this natural rhythm — the one that occurs in our breath, in our body, in our seasons, in our experience of the sun, moon, and solar system — deepens our relationship with our own energy through our nervous systems and breath. It is with this intimate knowledge of our own internal galaxy that we gain the power to expand and attract our natural desires for beauty, peace, ease, and joy.

Practice again, attuning to your rhythm right now. Notice how you are breathing right now. Intentionally place your hands on your body, creating a circle of contact and energy. Notice your breath expanding the edges of your body, feel the boundaries of your body pulling into your center as you exhale.

Keep your mouth closed and rest your tongue on the roof of your mouth. Breathe easily in and out of your nose. Feel the edges of your body expanding as you inhale, and feel the boundaries of your body moving toward the center of your galaxy as you exhale. Continue breathing this way until you feel a change in how you experience your own energy.

If this practice and this way of being resonates with you, then the Return to Inner Wisdom journey may be the invitation you've been waiting for. The Women's Autumn Journey begins September 4th.
